Hi GGGS,
Have you thought about how much public liability cover you are looking for? This will be one of the main driving forces behind the price. With us (Simply Business) another aspect that's considered is how long you have been trading self employed as well as your claims history. You can also get tools cover and if you have employees, legally you will need employers liability cover.
If You have any queries please feel free to send me direct message or via http://ow.ly/3PBDu
Kind Regards
Tim

Permalink Reply by Christopher Ray on October 29, 2012 at 22:14 I just got some quotes for PL.
£76 for Zurich and £155 for direct line.

Simply Business were really good for me this year. My van's through CVD, and their PL division couldn't match it and advised me to go for that deal. Of course, the real time we learn whether price was the best thing to go for is if we need to claim, and at renewal time, but worth a call.
Just noticed this is a thread from 18 months ago. Hope they are still using LJN and happy to help members!

I just got another quote from tradesmansaver for £40 !!! That's a substantial difference. Then I added tool insurance and its £93..

Be very careful about saving a few £s on an essential, like PL cover. Also, check the tool cover as most are never going to pay out. Just read things like what sort of alarm, and written proof, you have to have on the van, before you go for tools cover.
More get-out clauses than you would believe on most tool policies IMO.

Permalink Reply by Christopher Ray on October 29, 2012 at 23:51 Thanks Paul, I'll read through the pdf of the policy asap. I'm a bit confused why its over £100 difference between mine and Gordon's though.
