When an opportunity presents itself to your business and for various reasons you do not want to proceed BUT need to let the client down gently so as not to burn your bridges, how do you handle it ?

We've used :

- the 'project book' / diary full

- lack of resources

- pricing

- straight 'No'

Anyone care to share any other sensible / professional ways to decline an opportunity ?

(p.s. in my book, "not" returning their calls is an unacceptable strategy ;-)

Went to a quote this week to see a front and back garden. After seeing the back garden I walked back through the house to find a gardener starting to trim the hedge! I couldn't believe it! The customer told me to still quote for the garden!! I then later sent a polite email informing the customer that on this occasion we will not be providing a quote due to the fact that she already has someone to do the work.

Politely..
"Thank you, but No " !!!

That would make me fuming too!

We got asked to look at garden once, to make suggestions about what to do with a knackered rockery, at the same time 'the gardener' was cutting the hedge.

I know how you will all chuckle when I say, sometimes people think we run a helpline, have been asked where to take a mower to be serviced.

It's in our name you see, 'Ask-King 4 Gardening'

we are on the verge of changing our name to Damson House Designs.
