I know what you mean Martin :-)

The buildcentre bags are slightly smaller but are not very water proof unfortunately. Personally I prefer the Jewson bags and just fill them half up. Very water tight and fairly robus even if dragged over stones etc.

The local council green waste bags are £1, can buy as many as you want and are pretty useful for moving waste. They are a bit small, though easy to move when full. I'm sure theres something similar in your area, or have a load delivered to you?

I've thought exactly the same when trying to manhandle the builders bags. They're too big to 'bearhug' and carried low they just bang on your legs. Put something dense in them (like chip) and you can only fill them about a 1/4 full before they can't be lifted.

My ideal spec would be 60cm cube, waterproof, reinforced base, self opening, with handles on the bottom too.

Cheers for all the replies will look into the material that pro said.
I know there out there as Ive seen another garden company using them.

this is what we use a lot of – HDPE woven grain sacks - not quite wide enough at the top but deep and last a fair while - we can get dozens per week from a small local brewery – they chuck 'em.

We had the same problem handling the 1000L / builders bags if its a single person. We found these bags from BOSMERE (see web site www.bosmere.com - Clean-up bags & Sheets) worked well for us in addition to the normal builders bags...

They do a whole range of products, most for the domestic market, but these are aimed at the 'landscapers' and have top & bottom handles and a strap on the base to allow you hold the bag upside down and shake empty. The bottom is re-enforced (double ply). They hold > 250L which is great for mowing and general small-medium jobs.

However, retail they are ~£12 (!), but we managed to strike a great deal with a local supplier as we orderd a very large number.

I use dumpy bags and just dont fill them so much or if the van is near leave them in the back and fill then, I prefer the jewsons bags too also our local jewsons has the bags with the flaps on the side aswell as the loops on top. I find if I drag the bag about then use the flaps to get the bag in the van its a bit easyer, we also have a local builders merchant, Gibbs and Dandy ther bags are the same idea just a little smaller so good for handling.

I just use the normal bags but keep the bag in the back of the truck or van and then use an 80 litre plastic dustbin for carrying the rubbish out of the garden.
