How do we motivate people to attend the regional LJN meetings ?

After a lot of comments and requests to organise regional LJN meetings to satisfy everybody, how do we motivate LJN members to attend ?

It's 'our' network and the meetings will give an unrivalled opportunity to network with colleagues, socialise and help decide LJN's future.

So - rearrange that job or meeting, look at van sharing.......just do it !

Now is the time to give something back to LJN.........

Please, please do make an effort to attend, without your support little can be achieved.

It would be great to keep the thread positive to ensure as many as possible consider the benefits of making the meetings rather than negatives that seem to be floating around.

LJN Meetings 23-26 March 2012

If you cannot make the scheduled meeting but would still like to meet up after for social chat then feel free to drop in.

p.s. this thread was started off my own back and does not imply any pre- approval by Phil :-)

John, I wasnt on chat last nite and havent seen what or wasn't said so won't comment. We are doing NONE OF US ANY favours slugging this out on an open forum. As i have stated in my last post, lets move on for the betterment of the harmony of the LJN and the potential customers who view this site and look at the posts.

my responce at the begining was to thank the people who are attending the cardiff meet

maybe gary rk should be appologizing for his remarks on chat last nite ,

im not the only member he  upset last nite

Yes of course you can JP, I'm not saying that, but you were the first to bring nationality into this. Reading this thread and responses and arguements with fellow members has saddened me no end, WHERE HAS ALL THIS HOSTILITY COME FROM, and I am not pointing fingers at ANY individual members at all. I think we all need to draw a line through this and try and get to the actual point of Garys thread, how do we drum up more member interest in this. I dont know all the answers to this but what I do know is members friendships, relationships and professionalism's are being torn to bits, and over what ??. However I will add this, I am not in favour of the formatt of LJN changing as I have said in the past, its Phils web site, not a professional landscape association to be "privatised like APL BALI etc etc. But I am in favour of it being a "paid membership" site. The information and advice off other members on this site is quite staggering, lets keep it staggering for us all.

Lets stop the rot now folks, all of us :-)

yes i do remember this brian , and i had to fight my case to get a welsh meeting organised , wherever it was in wales , i couldnt care where it was , at the begining the meets were organised just for birmingham and scotland .

my point was we are not just welsh members but members of ljn , and signaling us out on chat last nite only gives bad vibes

this thread has gone a bit haywire .

my responce at the begining was to give an opinion of how we can get interest and
the idea of an agm was a bad one

just because three members based in wales gave their opinion is irrelevant , but on chat last nite that wasnt seem to been understood

so if we are welsh cant we give an opinion ????

hang on a moment mr white is white ....your words fence sitter i see that as an attack on myself and other welsh members who contributed to this thread !

my whole arguement here is and i repeat it ........

2400 members

4 meetings

30 attendees

a total shame

i feel sorry for phil personally allthough iam looking forward to meeting him , hes spending his hard earned cash on something that a very tiny minority is participating in (0000.1%)

i puts my arguement back maybe this site shouldnt be a free site a paying one !

then maybe we can build it like an apl or  bali

signing off annoyed ljn member not  WELSH ONE BUT A BRITISH ONE !

JP, I'm big enough to apologise for whatever I may have said to upset you personally last night on chat.

I have explained what I said in post above

All this bickering is more akin to a school playground than a bunch of professional businesses. It has to stop for the sake of LJN and our sanities . Here. Now.

Again, my apologies John. From my prospective it is now a closed 'book'.

Seems like this has gone a little too far.....

I Input on ljn when I can sometimes you get shot down by other members giving their views sometimes you get ignored and sometimes you get acknowledged. Ive attended the etesia open day and learnt alot through ljn and confirmed a few niggling things its a great way to speak to fellow professional landscapers and gardeners.

I will try and attend the birmingham meet anyone coming from linconshire direction across or leicestershire are more than welcome to meet me at melton and share a lift the rest of the way or i can pick you up on the way it would be good to meet a few more localish members.

OK was on chat last night for the first time only "lurking" did see the aforementioned comment "fence sitters" amongst others, can't see where all the emotion is coming from to be quite honest it all seems to be blown out of proportion! Feel sorry for Phil who although has his hands full trying to keep the status quo, it has been said earlier on in this thread & many others take a step back & think about things rather than kicking off, (not aimed at anyone specific just generalising)!

My own opinion on this "life's too short" , can't see what all the fuss is about! Think about it this way say a customer of yours is looking into this open forum & seeing how this has panned out - thoughts? or is that for another thread, off topic but just felt it needed to be said.

So, back to Gary's question.

Having been to 5 LJN Meetings over the last couple of years, the attendance averaged only 6-7 LJN Members, so these planned meetings appear on a par with what has gone before.

As we have already said elsewhere on LJN, we cannot make any of the meetings this time around.  Why, some may ask?

Birmingham 7 hour round trip, Cardiff 4 hour round trip, Guildford 4 hour round trip, Scotland - hate to think how far!

For my only observation on the timing of the meetings, weekdays at 5pm?  Many in our industry are still working or on their way home, so it is not practical for them to attend.  A weekend would perhaps have enabled many more to consider attending?

The great thing about LJN for is that Members do not have to attend Meeting to participate in it, for LJN has over the last few years changed the way our industry works and thinks.

LJN Members do it online.  We are quite a modern bunch really.

For the maximum involvement of all LJN Members, any AGM should therefore be online, and we should stick to what we are best at.

Don't get me wrong LJN Meetings are great, but we are in the lucky position of meeting LJN Members on a regular basis, for many LJN Members are also our customers.
