Hoe hoe hoe!
Since smashing my fiskars swoe (finding out it is NOT meant to be used as a pick axe) I have reverted to a draw hoe until a new swoe I have ordered arrives. All I can say is what a difficult tool to use in comparison!
If anyone is still using standard draw hoes then I urge you to try a 3-sided golf club style hoe such as the swoe. I couldn't believe how much more resistance there is with the old hoe, it's so much more dofficult to use on clayey soil as it blocks up a bit, and it is much more difficult to get a smooth even finish with it.
I can't wait for the new swoe to come as I still have one or two small beds to ruffle over and the thought of using that draw hoe again fills me with dread!

I try to avoid hoeing whenever possible....too much like hard work!

Sometimes in a smallish garden it makes a huge difference and I like leaving the place looking perfect even if it means a little more work than just spraying.

Hoeing isn't hard work at all you can blits round beds in no time and if done well you can make the garden look tidy throughout the year better than spraying and leaving weeds to die off

This isn't a hoeing vs mulch thread thanks. There are lots of situations where a soil bed should not be mulched and sprayed and drawing the distinction between how you treat commercial sites and certain domestic sites is very important to me.
Anyway Chris you won't want a draw hoe or a swoe so move along now!

I enjoy using a standard hoe to be honest but we are on sandy soil round here. Never tried a swoe! I find it allows you to give a really good tidy finish.

Jenny just try a swoe - it does everything a standard hoe does but is much easier and quicker to use, leaves a better finish, plus the point is incredibly useful for scraping out moss from paving joints and general corners. Once you get used to one you won't go back. I promise.

I use a wolf garten push pull hoe very good tool but i used a customers swoe once and liked it i may have to purchase one myself

Yeh sounds a good idea I general just pull it because its at the correct angle with this you could pull and push and hoe better with it. Cheers Paul
