Hi all.

I have an HL100 thats got serious vibration going on somewhere in the pole. Ive taken off the blade head and with the engine revving the vibration (and clattering noise) is coming from the pole, somewhere. The rod inside rotates freely with the fingers so there is no obstruction and the rod doesnt seem bent. I plan to take it apart in the next few days when I get a sec, just wondered if anyone knew the symptoms...

Cheers.

you should check the machine at the engine end. Make sure the drive shaft is fitting securely into the housing at the clutch drive. It may  have worn a bit and be causing the drive to slip when revved, which would result in the vibration.

The machine is only 4 months old, but I will take a good look when I take it apart. Thanks.

4 months old? Don't take it apart as you'll have no chance with the dealer. Take it back and let them look at it.

It might not be under warranty for commercial use, but any dealer that wants you as a long-term customer will deal with the occasional 4-month old problem in my experience.

4 months old, yeah back to dealer, dont take it apart

It doesn't matter whether it has been used commercially or not, the law states that all new items purchased in the UK are subject to a 12 month warranty. Do not let anyone, especially a dealer fob you off. If they do then that is what the small claims court is for!

I took it apart today. Cant do without it for a few days while the dealer looks into it. After half an hour troubleshooting, turns out the serious clattering vibration was due to not enough grease around the rod that runs through the pole from engine to cutting tool. Greased it up and its as smooth as silk!

I ran the exact same model (different machine) from new for perhaps three years and never experienced this issue. Am surprised this was the cause on a four month old machine.

Thanks for all the input guys.
