  • This annoys me too. I can see commentators will make the travellers the scape goats but it is Histon Football Club that should be blamed. I know they are skint, as most clubs are, but they are a community club and they should be looking after their surrounding environment and not breaking the law, whatever the cost. Reading the articles it looks like they may have done similar things in the past.

Did they pay cash? Did they get an invoice to put through their books?

I hope the council fine them the maximum amount and ensure it is well publicised.

To me this is much worse than John Terrys' extra marital affair but I bet it doesn't make the same headlines.
  • I totally agree with you Perfumed Garden.

I too hope that the journalists and Histon's Chairman don't make scape goats of the travelers as stories like these often do. Travelers and their work are a separate issue here.

I drove past it today and made me sad to see such a huge space that's been culled :o(
  • I imagine being travelers, that have supposedly moved on then there would be no paper work, even though they are skint it still doesn't excuse using travelers, or getting work done on land that isn't even theirs!

    Its stupid relay both ways!
  • Fired off a reply to the article this morning Vanessa, but it hasn't been posted yet.

"This is why it is so important to engage reputable, experienced land-based professionals. They are familiar with issues such as TPO’s, health and safety, are fully insured and traceable!
The club should have obtained three quotations from local well-known companies along with a schedule of works so that everyone knew what was to be carried out.

The club deserves the fine for getting work done on ‘the cheap’ and the resulting devastation their decision has caused. I would also force the club to re-plant with mature trees of similar stature to the ones removed to re-establish the landscape. This would be MUCH more than £20,000 and a lesson to anyone thinking of cutting corners.

Professional tree surgeons, designers and maintenance contractors spend many years training and learning about their vocation and deserve to be more highly regarded".
  • It's now been posted Kerrie...saw it earlier...well said :o)

  • Thanks Vanessa for alerting me to this. I know the area well having been bought up in Cottenham.
  • They knew exactly what they were doing.
why would they not supervise a group of gipseys and let them cut trees down with c.p.o's on them ! they think they are above the law , these supposed managers.

i hope they get the £20,000 fine or more that they deserve -

    gardens4u.co.uk NO EXCUSES...........just total lies -
