The POWER of HEALING Gardens...
Just sitting out in your garden after a hard day or hard week is so calming, so while I was in hospital over the weekend, thought of that little bit of fresh air, that sense of Nature to relax the stresses that I was faced with, that calmness that plants through shape and texture have the Power to soothe and relax...
Do any of you or have you Designed or worked on a Healing Garden ???
Do you Believe they help with everyday stresses, even a little to make the mind not worry so much ???
I think even looking out a hospital building to a beautiful garden, would help a little with the stresses...
I found this photo of the Cleveland Botanical Garden, in the gardens of the hospital, how tranquil is this, I think it has that soothing, relaxing feel !!!

I like you am very critical of gardens, but when you are in the hospital with a loved one, and look out either at a garden or Nature itself,t there is a sense of healing, if even for the moment, the sickness or issues at hand of being in the hospital go away by the beauty of Nature !!!

Hi Brigitt
I think that for those who don't have to look after gardens, they can be very 'healing'! The problem I have is I always look at gardens in a judgemental way - seeing what problems there are or what work needs doing now or in the near future. I have found that it is particularly easy to 'criticise' other peoples work and see things that haven't been done when I know they have done as well or better than I would have.....
I am looking forward to the day I don't maintain gardens and can just enjoy their beauty!

neglected garden, it is so depressing. I am not sure who they get to
do their gardens, but they certainly are not gardeners. It is
strange really as a nice garden will certainly make people happy,
and happy people normally heal faster than the depressed.

I guess one must carry their own bag of Sunshine and be very Imaginative !!! :)))

If you ever visit York Hospital, you will notice an abundance of art work throughout the buildings, a lot more interesting than ever ending notices about clinics, jabs, prescription charges, etc

There are pockets of landscaped areas, which are hard to spot, calm & relaxing, it isn't.
