Just wondered who has taken this step and decided to

pass over this lovely job to their accountant.

I am not sure how much it costs, but anything that

alleviates the stress and stain of running a business must

be a good thing if it enables extra energy to be focused on

the important side of the business - making a profit !

Thanks for that info, Gary.

Peter, our book keeper comes to us, so all the info is in one place, every 7 to 10 days. She has her own schedule which reflects our key dates (Vat 1/4's, payroll run dates,PAYE/NIC dates, Supplier payment dates, Month-end, our invoicing dates etc).

If and when she has any 'spare' time she swaps from be reactive/historic based to proactive/budgeting based with my help.

I tend to 'code' any specific receipts for QB from my knowledge, especially when dealing with job costing (ie allocating costs to a job to check budgeted vs actual and ensure all costs are charged).

I have just sent an email to my accountant and her book keeping employees,

so should find out soon how much it will cost, and exactly what is required.

I hope I can just open their door once a month and throw a folder of invoices

and bank statements onto the desk.

I have just got the bill for quartely book keeping from

the accountants office where her staff charge £25 per hour.

The total cost was £345, which means a yearly cost of £ 1300 approx.

As this is something I can easily do myself on wet days, I don't think

I will be continuing with it.

I found a local lady £9.00 an hour she charges around 1.5 hrs a month to do the books onto computer

Google book keepers then your town or ask around

So you pay £40.50 a month compared to my £345 .

 Google here I come !!!

£9.00 an hour for a book keeper ? I would be very worried about that !

I've just decided to hand everything over to my accountant who's quoted £60 p/month + VAT to do all book-keeping, including timesheets, invoicing etc and this apparently will include home visits when needed and prep/submission of year end accounts.  Considering that it takes me at least one or two days per month to do it myself, this is a bargain I hope.

I us to pay £1200 per year. but now £200 for an accountant then the wife does all the weekly bits.

Managed to do the July book keeping in a couple of hours yesterday,

have got everything fairly well organised now in order to hand it over

to the accountant, so thought I might as well do it myself and see if

it is a lot easier.

I only use the cheque book for employees wages, I have a personal

credit card and one I use for business, and I have stopped paying for

items with cash.

Being a one man band my paperwork is relatively small although I do find the monthly invoicing tedious...but a very necessary chore....cash flow is king.....end of year accounts and making sure I claim the necessary tax reliefs well that's the job of an accountant in my view
