Hi all,
My beloved Echo backpack blower went in for repair today and I fear it may be something terminally expensive. Certainly no complaints though - five years work out of a second hand piece of kit costing £180 - happy with that.
I have been meaning to get a handheld blower as a back up anyway and I'm wondering what to go for.
Echo - definitely be considered because the backpack has been brilliant.
Stihl - the obvious choice - downside, parts have been hideously slow for my Kombi - five weeks for an electrical part recently.
Honda - love my Honda mower and dealer backup locally is outstanding. The blowers are four stroke though - what difference will this make to performance? (will be cheaper to run I guess)
Leftfield choices - Tanaka - recommended to me recently by another gardener
Makita - anyone tried their blowers?

I have a wee husky handheld, a 125bx or something. It was about 200 quid and has been good so far but only a year and a half old. So much handier for blowing grass after mowing than the br600 back-pack

THe BG86 is the only way to go with hand held, I beleive but dont quote me the anti vibes are the best too. We have BG85s and 86s and both are good but the 86 is best.
I would never get anything other than a stihl, weve used them for years. The only thing that ever goes wrong is the pull chord snaps, but our local maintenance shop fixes that as you wait.

I only use Stihl, interesting to hear of a 5-week wait for a part. Is this down to the dealer, how close is your relationship with them?
I won't buy anything echo as I have tried a few times to get various spares for my brushcutter and no dealer can help me.

No I'm not blaming the dealer at all. Heard them on the phone a few times to Stihl Uk chasing the part and they were getting frustrated on my behalf.
Dealer has previously sourced Echo parts for instance by the following morning and I have a good relationship with them.
I had exactly the same fault with the engine last year and almost the exact same waiting time, hence my slight reluctance to lay out money on more Stihl stuff.

Try Nairn Brown in Busby, they have got stuff for my blower before no problem.literally within 24 hrs.
