Does anyone have any magic technique for getting hands clean?

It doesn't matter how heavily I scrub my hands the grime is ingrained, especially the sides of my thumbs and index fingers where the skin is hard.

I've tried Swarfega, wasing powder, sugar, even WD40 to no avail,

Now, it doesn't normally bother me but my better half has threatened me with a visit to a manicurist before the wedding in August..... and I know i shouldn't be such a caveman but.....i'd rather not!

So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Simple......forget special potions, swarfega, pumice, scrubbing etc. Ordinary shampoo is the answer.

Wash your hands in shampoo, or just wash your hair as normal and leave for a minute or two before rinsing. Most, if not all of the ingrained dirt will be gone.

Very rare I wear gloves

To assist in keeping hands clean I always carry baby wipes in the van, helps keep on top of the muck, moisturises my hands, better hygiene prior to eating.

I tend to buy them from Boots at £1.00 a pack pampers when on offer buy a few at a time.

Ecover heavy duty hand cleaner - works better than swarfega - then ordinary shampoo, then an intensive hand cream - whichever one is on offer.  Using the hand cream before work seems to stop dirt getting ingrained so much too.

Girlfriend is always nagging me saying my hands are filthy, no matter how many times I clean them.

Anybody tried a barrier cream before?

You could try wearing disposable rubber gloves for half an hour. They tend to contain sweat, keep the skin soft and a lot of the ingrained dirt comes off when you peel them off.

But hey, don't be ashamed of a bit of honest dirt in the skin. Its a badge of honour nowadays to be creating your own employment and living off the skills of what you turn your hands to. There's too many that just hold their clean ones out waiting for a handout.

Your future wife should be proud of you and what you do.

Thanks again for all this advice, great stuff,

:-)

Hello David, I'm not ashamed of my hands, you are right it's a testament to earning a crust,

The hands don't bother me or the other half usually, it's just for the wedding which is understandable,

Thing is as well we are getting married at the church which i maintain, so the day before i'll be mowing, trimming, spraying etc etc so I'm looking for methods to get my hands looking a bit better overnight lol

Cheers mate,

Try scrubbing them with toothpaste
