  • What are they getting for their £540 in a year how many feed & weeds, hollow tine aerations, Scarification’s, moss control applications

They allegedly used to in a year

    3 feeds @      £x.xx per feed

1 moss @      £x.xx per treatment same cost as the weed & feed

1 Scarify @    £x.xx triple the feed cost

1 Aeration @£x.xx double the feed cost cores remained on the lawn

£540.00 divided by 8 using the above means the weed & feed is £60.00 a visit must have a lawn area of around 600 meter square for that amount of cash, love for you to get the full details of what they get for their money and size of the lawns then we would all have a better idea of the charging scale that GT work on.

The adverts I have seen state it’s a pay as you go no contract service

  • Signed up for what? What are they doing for the person? How big is the lawn? Not much to go on with just that really.

I have seen lots of lush green lawns what have been maintained by green thumb for over 10 years, I have used them for 7-8 years and never had an issue with them in fact 4-5 years ago I had a problem with leather jackets destroying my lawn and if it was not for the fact I had instructed greenthumb to maintain my lawns I would not of known what to do to rectify the issue I had with my lawn disappearing in only a few days and turning to mud

I do feel its down to the integrity of the person who has the franchise or who is employed but I can honestly say  I have never had an issue with them what so ever and have recommended greenthumb to lots of people who I have worked for either constructing new driveways or a full garden redesign and as far as I know they are also happy with greenthumb and still use them

It would have to be a very very large lawn to be charged £45 per month as the only person I know to be paying more than the minimum charge was a good friend of mine who paid £200 per year, he has actually stopped using them now only for the reason he was on a cost cutting exercise 2 years ago and found out where to purchase the stuff similar to what green thumb use and now does his own lawn maintenance including the mowing too

everyone I have recommend have paid the minimum charge including myself what was £52 per year but has gone up slightly in the last 6 months by a few pounds per year

  • i get 50/50 reviews.  if someone is happy , paying a fair price i leave it to them.

lots of small lawns for £17-£18 a visit ,its good value . i wouldnt want to let the customer down by committing my self to these small ones.....

  • I get very mixed reviews!

Now being honest anyone including the householder can whack a feed down and on a lawn that hasn't been treated for a number of years it should start to see an improvement.

The key however is knowing what particular treatment to use, when and at what amount. Understanding the core issues / problems and taking the corrective action.  No two lawns are the same and sadly a standard schedule of treatments including some nice little high earners appear to be the norm! A one fit all approach.

Not just the said mentioned franchise but I have seen others that appear to push the high N rate of feeds more to get the "hey look at what we just done and made your lawn green and lush!" and of course cross sell other services even if these are not required.

The key to a good lawn care company is to correct any issues and keep the lawn looking great all year round, it isn't always a five minute fix  - Some find this particularly hard and I have seen too many lawns damaged over a period of years after the first few of looking lush.

End of the day I have found that it is all down to the operator / franchisor as to how good there are - The same can just as well apply to any of us on LJN.

I do have a few case studies which I will dig out later, including one where the client swears they used a picture of her lawn just after I mowed it and used on last years web site!

  • Lawn Lover - You missed off wetting agent treatment - this one normally gets added on all quotes regardless :-)
  • I think a lot of it is down to the particular franchise holder in your particular area, where i live i get mainly bad reviews about them. Many of my regulars use them and i dont actually know what they do to the lawns because there is still plenty of weeds and moss in most of them.
