Hi folks,
I have a client who would like a green roof on their new garden shed.
I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a specific shed or supplier that's particularly good for green roofs to be planted on? Otherwise they'll go down the route of reinforcing a standard shed and planting on that, which is fine but they want to avoid the work of reinforcing the shed roof...
Thanks!
Dani

Enviromat can supply the green roofing bit. For the shed try Cranes Sheds from Norfolk, Olympian Garden Buildings from Cheshire or Taylors Garden Buildings - also from Norfolk. Either of these companies will supply suitable buildings with or without the green roof included

Dani you don't mention how large the shed is likely to be. To give you an idea of the load bearing requirements for our wild flower roof turf; the saturate weight of the entire solution of turf + 100mm depth of substrate (growing medium) would be 130Kg/m².
A small shed probably wouldn't need reinforcing but in the end its always going to be worth making the effort on a larger shed in order to enjoy a beautiful wild flower roof.

Permalink Reply by James Hewetson-Brown on June 30, 2011 at 16:33 We can recommend Oxford Green Roofs. They have done lots of small roof projects with our Wild Flower Turf and our customers are always very pleased with them - and the turf is worth a look at too if you are interested in an alternative to sedum mat! These pictures are of Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park in Hampshire that used Wild Flower Turf!

It might be worth chatting with Mark Tolfree of Gabriola Garden Design, he seems to be the expert on green roofs.
