Fly tipping - why?

I have just been rung by a member of the great and good in my village to ask if I know anything about the cuttings left in a farm driveway. Obviously I don't as I never ever fly tip. But I ask the members why some of us in this trade do. The debris is obviously from a clearance job but if dumped by a pro then why? It gives all of us a bad rep and the fines if caught are not small.

I'd be inclined to give the great and good in your village a slap for even associating yourself with fly tipping....
  • Why? It's free, and there aren't opening hours.

Fines? The people who fly-tip don't pay fines....

Sadly this is not the first time s*** has been dumped in this location. Def. not farmer he has huge pile for rubbish elsewhere on his farm. This is true fly tipping. Stuff is waste from what looks like a hedge trimming/pruning job. When I get round to it I will post a piccie (currently on my phone). Such a shame. Oh well. They'll get caught eventually. My local council states...."Waste can only be deposited at licensed sites and anyone flytipping waste is not only costing us all money, as council taxpayers, but they are also committing a serious offence. Fines for flytipping can be as much as £50,000 or six months imprisonment (or both) on conviction in court." Only last month a local woman was fined £150 because someone she paid to clear her waste, unbeknown to her, fly tipped it.
  • It's a massive problem and inconvenience to farmers, the people who do this type of thing are the same types who throw litter out of their vehicle windows. Absolute scum.

  • I was driving through our local forest when I saw some clearance fly tipping not in the layby or lane end but in the middle of the road, they obviously couldn't even be bothered to reverse into the layby and just tipped as they drove.

  • I still have customers who want me to fly tip there waste because they do not want to pay for waste disposal, as they want a cheap job i tell them i'm happy to leave cuttings for them to dispose of at the local tip for free. Or I just say sorry I cant work with you as I will never fly tip.

So it might not just be the pro's as we have a repartation to look after.
