About the Landscape Juice Network

Founded in 2008. The Landscape Juice Network (LJN) is the largest and fastest growing professional landscaping and horticultural association in the United Kingdom.

LJN's professional business forum is unrivalled and open to anyone within within the UK landscape industry

LJN's Business Objectives Group (BOG) is for any Pro serious about building their business.

For the researching visitor there's a wealth of landscaping ideas, garden design ideas, lawn advice tips and advice about garden maintenance.

Through some recent posts on LJN it appears that some within our industry think that Female Landscapers and Garden Designers spend more/buy more plants than male counterparts.

In fact, this is not correct.

Having been involved in supplying Trade customers since 1980, the trend is very clear to us.  As a fact Males within our industry buy far more plants per year, every year, than females within our industry, based upon actual sales.

The myth that female Landscapers would be hit the most by any hosepipe ban, more than males, is not correct based upon actual sales, since 1980.

Perhaps the problem is that LJN represents grass cutters, hard landscapers, but not total Landscapers.

In terms of actual sales it is around 70% Males and 30% Females since 1980.

  • I don't see any relevance really. There are more males in the trade than females. in fact, I would guess it may be about 70:30...

Can you link to these 'recent posts' so we may put your post into context? Could you also point to where it is said females buy the most plants or would be hit hardest by the hosepipe ban?

What is the source of your data? Is it drawn from your own sales or is there some kind of industry metric you are referring to?

  • As a female I have bought lots of plants this year still small scale few hundred pounds here and there.  I  really want to increase my plant sales. I make profit and love choosing, my problem is time factor working round the kids but I squeeze it in. I would say it's male dominated industry within male landscapers.
