its easy
go into facebook
account settings and detick (i may have made that word up :-) ) the boxes marked notify me when.....
pick all the ones you don't need and get rid of them, after that no more annoying beeping, the only time i get messages now is if someone sends me a private message through the facebook system.
Although i don't actively market on there the networking side is really good and gets me a couple of jobs a year.
it really depends wether you want to use facebook to be in contact with friends and family, or if you want to use it for business.
I use it for F & F, but post some of my blog posts to it, to let them know what i'm up to, if your contacts all know what you do, they can tell their contacts when they are looking for work done-
but you can use it for business and have a facebook page, - i'm not an expert, but if you want to know more I thoroughly recommend the webtechclub - this is a mentor of mine who helps small business's with web tools (facebook, twitter, blogs, email newsletters) and shows you in videos how to do it. - just £30 for a month of information about how to get set up professionally.
