Etesia PHE crankshaft issue

Hey all. The blade on one of my PHE 18" push mowers now spins independantly of the crankshaft! There is a brake in the large part of the bottom end of the crankshaft where the blade is bolted on and also a crack in the other side. See pics.

1) Any ideas how to hold the engine to prevent the shaft moving to remove the blade?

2) Is the faulty machine goosed with this issue, or is the bottom end of the crankshaft replaceable? I'm not able to run it into the local mechanic for a day or two so just wondering....

These machines have a plastic crank saver washer fitted to them to prevent the crank and blade bending if you hit a solid object. Take the blade off and check if the plastic lugs on the saver have sheared off. If so just buy a new washer and fit it.
  • We use an impact wrench like this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-2-12V-Impact-Wrench-Kit-350Nm-RAC-038-2...

  • some lawn mowers require a vice to hold the blade in position while you loosen the bolt, im not sure whether the bolt come of anti clockwise, or an electric of airline impact wrench should work without to much hassle.

The shear washer has done its job and now needs replacing, it's part number 23002. Also looks like the blade boss there may need changeling aswell but for this Inumber I need the diameter of the shaft and I will get the number for you

Also I normaly use grips on the phe mower to stop the crank turning, the section that you show in the pics is just the blade boss and not the main crank , both boss and washer are replaceable items and from memory will set you back around the 25 quid mark
