Chelsea 2010 - Is it time for a new show to allow more access to all?

I don't want to dish RHS Chelsea, it is still the principal show and the vast majority of exhibitors are of the highest caliber in the UK landscaping industry - but as per my blog. I fear that media attention is being swayed by the elite and subsequently damaging to the core reasons for the show, (as well as limiting access to those that truly deserve coverage).What would people think of a show which transfers between the larger cities of the UK, held on council owned brownfield / wasteland sites and remains a permanent feature after the show? more sustainable, open to all and a break from the continuing alienation of the industry from the public enforced by the incumbent organisations.

    I think a national show that moves around the country would be an excellent idea. It could give people local to an area the opportunity to contribute, without the high logistical costs involved with working at somewhere like Chelsea. The idea of a lasting legacy is also another attractive feature.
    Whether there is an appetite for the financial risks involved, in launching such a show, in the current economic climate is another matter.

    I have to be honest it was a musing, but looking about there could be mileage in something along these lines. Any further thoughts would be great as I may check it out further as I know a group looking to promote urban sustainable gardening. With real landscaping practitioners giving credence to such a scheme would give it boost and a half.
