I know this thread has gone off its original topic but nevertheless cats' (and dogs, foxes and rats) faeces is a problem for professional gardeners.
Health and safety must be taken seriously. Pregnant women are at considerable risk from Toxoplasmosis.

CJ, getting back on track;
- have you seen cats damaging the lawn ?
- if so, in what way - digging, fouling etc ?
We see similar by foxes and badgers at one of our sites

Apart from slagging everyone one off Jason have you actually got anything constructive to say on this subject?
I've always found water to deter them, mainly thrown at them from a jug etc or with a hose. Or a ball thrown in their direction when I see them. These are of course only temporary measures until my rifle comes back from the shop.
I'm kidding... I'm kidding...
jason did you actually read all of my comment, not once did i mention harming any animal in any way or inflicting pain on any animal innocent or not, read it before calling me the problem

I dont think anyone on LJN would actually enjoy harming a cat but when they are feral and acting as a 'pest' then sometimes the only option is to kill them, in the same way that we kill mice, rats, foxes, etc. What do you think happens to all the unwanted cats and dogs that cant be re-homed?...they get put in a chamber and gassed. Catowners should be more responsible and get their cats neutered then we wouldn't even be in this situation.

my customers have tried the various pellets, pepper etc, but spikey twigs in their 'runs' seem to work for a while. Having had the roller of my mower covered in their cr*p most weeks this summer I think Jason there is a problem with cats. Not only is it unpleasant but there are the health issues. Anyway in the interest of free speach...
Tin hat on
I get the point of 'house' cats that stay in all day, but I fail to see the point of a pet you only see when it wants feeding.

Jason
I don't fee Chris' response was unreasonable.
Cats are a genuine problem in gardens and for gardeners.
It's my opinion that there's no difference to the humane control of cats as there is to controlling rabbits or rates.

Another intelligent response well thought through!!

maybe i will be your neighbour one day!

Jason, rather than react to others' responses, why not put forward an argument in favour of cats?
