Peruvian Scilla

Driving past the churchyard out of Castillonnes, I spotted these stunning flowers on the verge side.
I have to say I've not come across them - certainly not planted any or supplied any.

Can you help?

    They come in white too...

    I think they are probably a type of camassia, looking at the leaves, and how they have naturalised, but they arn't as tall as the cultivated forms of cucksii.

    Hi Phillip, it is Scilla peruviana, native to the Western Mediterranian region - really beautiful!

    I see it is a hyacinthoides: Hyacinth was my first instinct.

    I bought 10 Scilla peruviana bulbs from Nick Pragnell of Bulbs4u.co.uk at the show.

     

    Nick sourced them in advance of the event so if you need bulbs this autumn then why not give Nick a call.

    Out of the 10 bulbs I bought only 5 have survived. Two are flowering beautifully in one spot but the remaining three have no flowers, although the leaves are healthy and strong.
