digging out in London gardens we make jokes about finding the box of money or WWII bomb, but alas nothing as interesting has ever turned up. Wondering what kind of things you guys have struck while excavating. My most intersting was a human jawbone- we were working on an old graveyard site.

Never found anything valuable - plenty of tennis balls, frisbees, footballs etc. Once found a kid's microscooter in a beech hedge. It had obviously been thrown on top of the hedge a year or two earlier, as it was rusted-up and well and truly "grown in". Left it on the pavement, was gone within an hour.
We paved a patio and swimming pool surround with old York flags. A couple of years later I was asked to lift and replace a slab by a doorway because it's dish was holding water.  Having lifted it I found my comb chisel entombed in the bedding muck.  Better than finding a Roman coin!

my old neighbour found a pair of Felco snips in a compost bin i had built on an allotment i used to have.....my work chum had lost them several years beforehand! He sharpened and greased them up and got to keep them!!

I did a clearance many years ago.  Most of the garden had been well maitained for a number of years but there was a really overgrown patch at the bottom.  A nabour informed me it got like that after the previous owners wife disappeared!
