Would any other (particularly Scottish) landscapers be interested in sharing material costs from various suppliers to ensure we are all getting the best deal? I was thinking of a list of say the 10 most commonly used materials from Type 1 to Indian sandstone....what do you think?

this might be better done trough a group with which only the members can see,

just to list a couple of reasons

general public could then start asking questions to you or your supplier.

prices could go out of date and then people just joining could try quoting old prices

and also there could be a valid reason a supplier is chargeing more for there product (better quality paveing on the indian stone / better type1  or even gives that little extra in a scoop of sharp sand

atleast in a group setting this could be controlled better to protect your self and supplier and it would also be much quicker to find

just a thought

ah good thinking Neal. Do you think a materials costing group would work?
I think it would, and would be useful for nationwide searching - and for getting a feel for regional price variations. Given the discussions we often have regarding pricing, it would help to know what the difference in materials costs are, as this may explain prices which to people in other areas may appear either too high or too low... Would be very helpful in making decisions.

This is a good company with competitive pricing never the cheapest or the most expensive, they are the largest independent single depot dealership in the UK

A great idea Susan.

This something i'd be interested in.

As above I think region and quantity can play a big part,

Were I buy my type 1 they can be very helpful in throwing in a few extra ton :)

I'm interested. Let me know which prices you're after and I will dig them all out.

I would be interested in helping you with this,  we are based outside edinburgh and prices vary considerably between merchants. I agree with other comments re quality and quantity issues but sure these could be addressed.
