No not yet, I have a job using Marshalls fairstone paving in 2 weeks time what will be jointed using the weatherpoint 365
i will let you know my opinion on the product after i have used it

Hi All,
Apologies for the delay on picking up this thread.
Some of you will be aware, that we at Marshalls have launched a new brush-in jointing product this year called Weatherpoint 365. If you are not aware, please allow me a quick plug…. Weatherpoint is a brush-in compound (similar in make-up to a couple of products mentioned in previous posts) with the added benefit of being able to lay it in the rain. In fact, Weatherpoint works and performs better the more water you use. So in effect, there should be no more days waiting for the weather to improve before you point up, complete a job and get paid. There is also no wastage either. If you don’t use all the product on one job, simply put it back in the tub, cover over with water and take it to your next job!
We are extremely excited about this product and it’s been nearly 2 very long and arduous years in development….We have literally trialled it to destruction and it has performed fantastically. We have also managed to convert some of our most sceptical Register Members into using it! On that note, if you are a Marshalls Register member and would like more info, please get in contact with your IDM, who will be happy to come down and give you a demo of the product. If you aren’t a Register Member and would like some more information, please visit http://www.marshalls.co.uk/transform. Alternatively, contact me at my e-mail address below and I’ll be only too happy to give you more info and arrange for a sample.
Shameless plug over!
My opinion on most of the jointing products on the market is much the same as you guys on here; there are some great ones that do exactly what they are supposed to and some absolutely hopeless ones. Sadly the reputation of the hopeless ones has sullied that of the good ones (Please; nobody mention M-Joint!). Over the past two years, we have literally trialled as many jointing products we could possibly get our hands on. So we know what’s out there, we’ve learnt from our experiences on how the products should perform and we genuinely think we have the best product out there now with the added benefit of being able to lay it in the rain.
One of the things we have found though when using these brush in products is the importance of ‘striking’ the product off once brushed in. This reduces the permeability and gives the joint its strength. In effect, this stops any of the moss and algae growth so common with the brush in products. In our lab tests, we found that a struck off Weatherpoint sample had comparable strength to a 4:1 mortar mix and was also less permeable. The difference in performace was very that noticeable.
If anyone wants more info drop me a line on chris.frankland@marshalls.co.uk and i'll try to help. I will also keep up to date on here, even if i don't have as much tme to reply as i would like!
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris
Am I correct in saying that the German Gftk product is the exact same product as the new Weatherpoint 365?

Any chance of a short video and some images showing close-ups of the mixture and finished joints Mick?

Yeah i was going to do it anyway Phil

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your feedback on Weatherpoint 365 and I'm glad you like the product. Can you post up any photos for us of your new Paving Centre in all it's glory?
In response to your post regarding curing times, it is very much weather dependant. Because you use water before and during the application, that slows down the curing time slightly. But the trade off for that is it's non-staining as the water acts as a barrier between Weatherpoint and the paving surface it also helps the product to flow into the joints easier. In our trials of the product, we laid it in very low temperatures in Jan and Dec last year and it went off, absolutely solid, but it took up to 48 hours to do so. You will notice that in the summer months (hopefully we'll get some this year!), it will go off a lot quicker.
Just for your info, we are nearly there with our new Weatherpoint 365 website. This will have a function for installers/landscapers such as yourselves to post feedback on the product for other installers to see, along with videos and pictures of completed jobs you have done using Weatherpoint. I'll keep you all up to date when it goes live.
Please continue to feedback via LJN on the product as it is good for us to hear. Also, if you want more info/data sheets/a sample of the product, drop me a line on here or at chris.frankland@marshalls.co.uk and i'll try to help.

Permalink Reply by Adrian Ovens on April 10, 2011 at 13:41 Hi Everybody there appears to be a bit of confusion with the products available for 'wet slurry application' -
Basically these fall into two types - firstly air drying polymeric sand based products supplied in a vacuum sealed bag which are relativly low stregth and suitable onl;y for domestic applicatiions, there is a great deal of variation in their 'flowability', 'hardened strength' and 'self compacting abilty' (- or the need for finishing in the joints) according to the product and the amount of water used deliberately or not as the case may be!
The majority of these products have a considerable drop in their basic compressive and more importantly their flexural strength of at least 50% over the 'lab test' figures claimed in their DataSheets when applied with water as a slurry. The more water used the greater this tendency can be, as will the corresponding increase in the time taken to finish the joints, and for the mortar to harden - Basically the best of these materials we have seen on test is GftK's vdw 840 Plus available from NCC Streetscape at www.nccstreetscape.co.uk - These materials are very definitely not all the same and one short comparison will show you. PLUS please do not use any of the polymeric sand based products for commercial or trafficked areas of paving - they are not designed for this at all, they will also not resist mechanical street cleaning equipemt - Domestic paving use only and good for DIY is the recommendation of the German manufacturuers of the best of these materials!
For professional use in domesic paving, driveways, commercial areas and any other trafficked areas, including heavy vehicle hard standings, then the second type of slurry applied paving mortars should be used. The best of these are prepared using pre- water dispersed, epoxy resin-coated graded glacial sand mixed in its pail with a pre-dosed hardener (not ordinary epoxy resin added to a hardener and mixed with sand - as these are too strong and impervious and not self compacting) - reference products are GftK's vdw 800 / 805 / 850 and 855 Paving Mortars, to be selected according to the joint dimensions and loading / strength requirements etc. (info on www.nccstreetscape.co.uk )
As one saying goes 'small format paving is jointing dependent, larger format paving is bedding dependent' - these products are therefore absolutely ideal for all types of setts and other small format paving where the correlation of the flexural and compressive stregth and their modulus of elasticity is the real critical factor rather than simply ; a high stregth mix' which is actually counter productive in these situations - the stone or paving is rigid, thejointing must therefore accomodate the imposed stresses and transfer them.
The reason for these products being so far superior is their aggreagate grading together with the epoxy pre-coating that produces no dust in mixing, makes a permeable mortar (SUDS compliant), their tolerance of water - even suitable for application in the pouring rain!, their self compacting ability with no need for finishing, no risk of shrinkage due to water:cement variations in the joint, non-staining - meaning greatly reduced cleaning, full resistance to mechanical street cleaning machines etc..
Finally they are however like the polymeric sand moratrs very quick and easy to apply, no finishing is required and the epoxy base means that they are faster curing - at lower temperatures they can therefore also be installed and finish curing when the temperature rises again - No waiting and easy to schedule the works and get paid.
So if anyone would like a demonstration or to see a comparison then please call David or Gary on 01257 266696 and they will be pleased to arrange one with you - seeing is undoubtedly belieiving with these materials - They are vary definitely NOT ALL THE SAME - Take a look see!
I hope this helps to clarify the different types and to show you the source of those that are far and away the best in all of the comparitive testing that we have seen.
Thanks Adrian,
Consultant working with NCC Streetscape and others on new materials and technologies.
