Are they that easy to use - do they work? Any advice much appreciated.

  • So best way is dry mix, keep filling and wet?
  • NO!  dry mix brushed in and watered is the worst possible way. :(  It will fail in weeks or short months!

Paul means to use mixed, wet mortar.

I use vdw850 - a slurry applied resin jointing compound

  • Try weatherpoint 365 from Marshalls goes in wet which means you can point your paving in the rain great stuff in two colours grey and buff.

not porous so unlike Geofix and Romex it won't go green

costs around £35 per tub and coveres on average 8m2 depending on paving type

nb not for use on block paving

  • The early versions of brush-in pointing several years ago were prone to failure and caught out many early adopters.  The bad experience led to a deservedly bad reputation but now there are some extremely good products available which are durable, can be applied in the rain, look good, don't stain like mortar and are quick to apply. Whilst much more expensive than sand and cement, once labour costs are factored in, brush-in jointing wins every time.  We don't use anything else now. We use all of the following as appropriate:

Brands which perform well are VDW (available through NCC Stonescape, Chorley) Marshalls 365,

Romex (builders merchants).  Romex and VDW produce various products for various applications.  Just follow the instructions carefully and you can't go wrong

  • Thanks all for your replies, pointed in up today using my faithful old mortar gun, letting it go off a bit and then running over it with trowel / old bit of hose pipe.  Comes up a treat just takes so bloody long!!  Customer very happy main thing.  I am going to be brave and try one of the suggested brush in products next time..
  • A similar question - does anyone here use Flowpoint Eco by Ultracrete? We've been recommended it for a large paving and repointing job. If you've used it, what sort of coverage would you expect from a 25kg bag over a flagged patio area (600x600 and 600x900 flags). The technical datasheet on the Ultracrete site isn't much use.

Is there anything else you'd recomend for pointing 300sqm of natural stone paving?

  • 44sqm   they told me i need 2 bags - speak to katie there very helpful. 01827 872244
