Has anyone else (Specifically the under 30's!) found their age to play against them? Each of the first 4 (yes were on quote No.4!) has mentioned age, and as of present 3 have turned us down, 2 implying age, and 1 specificaly citing they wanted someone older.
I'm 24, and my business partner is 25, we both dress very sensibly for the job involved, are polite and courtious and have a reasonably good understanding of plants / lawn/lay care and grounds maintenence.

Could there be something we are missing? something we could cover to bring people round to be more trusting?

This would be the 'golden triangle', David?

We were informed 4 years ago that the going rate in that area was £15-18 / hr per person.

Try looking at the OYD for those areas, http://www.onyourdoorstep.co.uk/

We were in the Wetherby / Tadcaster edition last year, we stopped as we moved further away.

Getting discount from suppliers is more about 'confidence' & turnover, I know I spent 16 years working for suppliers, and discount was given to anybody, Ltd or not.

Building a realtionship with your suppliers is 'key'

Grass implies grass cutting, often the lowest value 'perceived' service, but your offering more than, aren't you David.

A picture speaks a 1000 words and all that, so what is grass going to say?

Why not take a picture of a garden, grass, borders, etc and use that, better still with one or both of you working in it.

Thanks for the advice. When I think about it, lack of personalised / fixed landline contact does make me thi
nk a little rogue. Anoying because I did moot this point in the begining but talked myself out of it "21st century and all that". We'l get these leaflets out, and get a simpler re-designed one ready.
Would people agree, a little more info, maybe fade the grass more, so its not so central to the image?

An emphasis on the Leeds-Harrogate-Wetherby Triangle would probably help massivly, showing were local and understand the area.
Thanks I do think we have aimed our leaflet at the lowest common, and without the descriptions of the service offering it does undersell ourselves now I think about it.
We really wanted to keep it simple and not put "too much info" on it. However its clear we went far too minimalist! I suppose by trying to take a 'pro' approach to the marketing we totally skimmed over what was actually important.

Next design we think should have one picture either side, One of a patio / hard landscape feature, and the other something striking like a Peony or Aquilegia, or even a panorama of a well organised flower bed.

We've currently got a Garden tidy, and an Indian Sandstone patio to do which we shall hopefully get some photos from. (However we've gotten a patio / drive layer to do the patio for us).

We did look at OYD, however their pricing seemed rather steep. We are in the 'golden triangle' so to speak, however every man and his dog from north leeds seems to be operating here at the moment, so the hourly rate seems to range from £8 to £15 atm. The higher prices towards the Harrogate area. Alot seem to be pricing themselves at a round £10 in north Leeds, this being taken from the Village shops window (Our leaflet is the only one without a price on it there [ Village is Shadwell]).

Another thought for you, have you been to Johnsons of Whixley off the York to Wetherby road.
Big suppliers, you can register for cash n carry on plants, by just turning up, with some trade ID.

Will give you an excellent discount, if you want more info, contact me direct, shush it's secret
