Am I right in thinking that I will need to purchase the £9.99 a month
package to create a business website. I guess the cheaper offer with the first
six months free then £4.99 a month will probably will not be suitable ?

Permalink Reply by Simon Smith on February 18, 2012 at 13:40 sorry i can't really help with the technical details but as far as my limited understanding goes you would want to switch from flexible width to a fixed width. This may be more difficult and may be coded into the site already if its some sort of template.
Maybe some web experts will contribute.

now I look at the review centre for guidance
http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews151391.html
they got 1.2 out of 5 from 180 reviews
whereas, got 4.8 out of 5 from 521 reviews
1&1 Internet have an interesting reputation, I have lost all faith in their ability to communicate intelligently.

Thanks everyone for the advice,
I bought the cheaper package by mistake as the link I had to their site brought this up first,
and I assumed it had been discounted from the £9.99 a month.
I then realised my mistake soon afterwards and phoned to explain, I was told it would be corrected
and that he would take my details to upgrade me to the business package. After this he then said he
would transfer me to the cancellation department. Two hours later after dealing with American numpties
who are on a par with those in Indian call centres, the issue was not resloved, I was told that the department
I now needed to speak to was now closed.
Are those people that stare at computer screens all day long brain dead, are they incapable of explaining the whole overview of the situation in one sentence.
Which is,
The domain I purchased with the first package cannot be transfered to the business package until it is registered, usually within twenty four hours, therefore the first package cannot be cancelled until this happens.
They also forgot to mention that the cancellation department is in England, so I have missed another opportunity today to get this sorted as they are now closed.
1&1 = frustration.

Is something that everyone should check out, it kind of made me feel a lot better
knowing that I was not being totally unreasonable with the dipsticks. However I am tied into
them for a year, and will no doubt be doing my best to avoid any contact with them at all.
I would rather kiss a rattlesnake or eat broken glass.
I liked the bit, - My wife is a computer programmer and even she can't figure out the control panel.
Come on 1& 1, get your stupid act together and stop employing monkeys, the customer is always right and at the moment, you suck big time !!!!!!!!

Something else worth noting, is how difficult it is to cancel anything, there is no access to this from your control panel, you have to go to seperate log in, LOL!
something you should try looking at.

there are pages that make it look as though you have hit the wrong link, lol .

Permalink Reply by John on February 19, 2012 at 11:45 I have not been impressed with the customer services at 1&1, but in all fairness
I have to admit that I do like the business templates for creating websites, they
are easy to use and quick. Here is one I knocked up yesterday, it is not finished
especially the Services page, and I need to add a few more project photo's but
apart from that, it is not far off completion. - Although God knows what the LJN
team will say.... lol

Permalink Reply by John on February 19, 2012 at 22:44 Yes I was not sure whether the company name was big enough, and I am not quite sure why the
photo's are different in size, there is an edit facility for the photo's, but it seems that they can only
be cropped to a smaller size. It may be that I have to change their dimensions before I upload them.
Anyhow I will be working on the site during the coming week in the evenings, so it should be all
finished by next weekend.

so not sure how you add one, but i am sure someone on LJN will know if you post a
specific question about it.

I thought a site map was useful because it helps search engines index your site ? Mine is a google site through GBBO and i submitted the site map to google so it could be crawled and indexed. I dont know how relevant this is to other sites.
