Event Description

Meet up for LJN members at Hatfield House in Herts with Henry Moore exhibition as added attraction.

Ok we now have a plan! Many thanks to Craig for researching things and making notes for our tour!

How to Get There

As people will be coming from different directions, it is best to buy your own entrance ticket and meet us inside the Stable Courtyard at 11am. There is a map and directions on the Hatfield House website or see below:

By Rail
The main entrance to Hatfield Park is opposite Hatfield station with a 5 minute walk to the house. The fast train from Kings Cross to Hatfield takes 25 minutes. Latest train to catch
is the 10:36 arriving at Hatfield at 10:57am.

By Road
Post code: AL9 5HX for Sat Nav. Hatfield House is 7 miles North of the M25 (junction 23) and 2 miles East of the A1(M) (junction 4). Exit the A1(M) at junction 4 (after the Hatfield Tunnel if travelling from the South) and follow the brown leisure signs for Hatfield House via the A414 and A1000. The car and coach park via George’s Gate which is a few hundred yards on from the Station Lodge entrance, at the mini roundabout with a large Citroen dealership.

Entrance Tickets

For the event people will need to buy the Henry Moore, West Garden & Park Ticket £12.50

If you wish to visit the House too then Hatfield House, Henry Moore, West Garden & Park Ticket £18.50.

Meeting Point

Meeting point 11am in the Stable Yard courtyard - at the water needle fountain located in the centre - see picture in link. You can grab a coffee while we assemble

Tour of Gardens

Craig has volunteered to lead a tour of the gardens and can give us a bit of background info and we can have a leisurely stroll/informal chat for approx 2 hours.

Lunch

I have booked a table in the Coach House Restaurant for us at 1.30pm - it’s self-service with a range of morning coffee, lunches, snacks, salads and delicious afternoon teas. If there are any members who cannot make the morning, why not meet us here for lunch. The minimum number for them to accept a table reservation is 14 - so I am really hoping we can reach that number!

If anybody thinks we should have a more formal discussion over lunch, please suggest anything here you would like us to cover.

After Lunch

Free time - you can re-enter the garden or the park or visit the house (if you have bought the ticket that includes a visit to the house) - or continue discussions with other members.

Contact Numbers

If you need to get hold of us on the day to say you are running late or to find us in the gardens:

Hi Jenny-have RSVP'd now. I came on the other day to do this and got side tracked!! Think it's a good idea of Craig's to act as informal tour guide...I'm prepping my questions for him now..

Will try to come along too - sounds great and I've never been to Hatfield House despite it being pretty close to West London ... no excuse.  Thanks to Jenny for organising.  Assume you'll post more info (times, where to meet etc) nearer the day. Also perhaps we could try to sort out some car shares between us ?  I'm in Ealing and happy to drive,  or share a lift, whichever.

Without doubt John Tradescant the Elder bought the Mulberry trees, that according to tradition, were planted by King James I at the four corners of the West Parterre at Hatfield House...

Why were they planted and what was wrong with them?

Well join the LJN meetup and l'll tell your more...
